Celebrate the holiday season by enjoying the beauty of the Esalen land, while learning how to give an Esalen Massage. Esalen Massage is a continually evolving, creative form of somatic bodywork. The essence of this practice is the awareness and presence with which one addresses individual needs, balances the whole person, and honors the healing power of touch. This workshop provides a safe and supportive environment for participants to explore sensitivity and connection through massage.

Through brief lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, the fundamental elements of Esalen Massage—breath awareness, quality of touch, long integrative body strokes, and creative table movements—will be presented. Sessions will include plenty of personal instruction and assistance, to support the process of learning. Our goal is to create a firm foundation for a massage that feels as satisfying to give as to receive.

This holiday retreat is for individuals and partners who would like to offer skilled caring touch to others, and for anyone interested in experiencing the Esalen approach to massage and bodywork. Come prepared to touch and to be touched, both in the workshop and by the beauty, power, and spirit of Esalen and the Big Sur coast. Bring loose, comfortable clothing, two sarongs, and any oils or lotion that you enjoy using.

All levels of experience are welcome.

Vicki is a founding member of the Esalen Massage School and a Senior Practitioner and Instructor of Esalen Massage & Somatic Bodywork.

An Experience of a Life Time!
Esalen® Massage is a unique form of bodywork developed over the last 40 years at the Esalen® Institute, in Big Sur, CA. Known for its long flowing integrating strokes, this massage style facilitates the body to heal through deep relaxation.  Come learn this healing art among the flowering jungles and lotus laden ponds of Bali, Indonesia.  This special 30 day training will include in-depth experience and practice in Esalen® massage techniques with extraordinary teachers. The program will be complemented by daily meditation, chanting, yoga, chi gong, ecstatic dance and other moving meditation practices.

This workshop will be a journey through Esalen Massage and Bodywork.

Using principles of experiential anatomy as our base, we will explore the relationship and balance between sensitive and structural touch, skeletal and organ support, and how these concepts open up our sensory awareness and perceptions and refine our physical skills. Specific attention will be given to mindful movement practices and alternate client positions that enhance our understanding of ourselves and refine our quality of connection with our partners. These creative concepts and techniques are easily integrated into your personal massage practice. Come prepared to move and be moved in this extraordinary environment on this journey of physical, emotional, and spiritual embodiment.
